That is great! And the last paragraphs, where Nat wonders whether or not Nick really wants to be saved or not; and then when she admits to herself at the end, 'But just as much, I love the vampire', really makes me wonder how much their relationship would change if Natalie wasn't Nick's 'doctor' and Nick was human, and living by purely human standards. That last statement is chilling, because in this story, Natalie already has given up her life...and it is probably still first or pre-first season. By the end of second and in third, Nick isn't too keen on research and therapies any more.
Fandom debates the topic of Nick living a human life forever and a day, and most believe that Natalie would be more willing to become a vampire...but I'm not so sure (except by the end of the series she had been depressed almost 1.5 years and had been subconsciously acting out a deathwish...clearly not in her right mind...if Janette had been around, she would have smacked her upside the head before it went that far).
